DarkGate and PikaBot malware have adopted the tactics previously utilized by the now-defunct QakBot trojan in a series of new phishing attacks. The malware is being distributed through phishing campaigns that employ hijacked email threads as the initial infection. Furthermore, unique URL patterns are being utilized to restrict user access, closely resembling the infection chain witnessed in QakBot delivery. This information was revealed in a report by Cofense.
